Dan Daru Gives you a sneak peEk of GOlden’s Underground!
The Dove Inn
Dan Daru, camera-person Cody and I take a tour through Golden’s Dove Inn, an 1866 home to a former butcher converted to a old-timey boutique hotel. Down in the basement you never know what might be waiting for you. Are there spirits of the past still lurking in the strange caverns within the foundation? Have the miners from the White Ash Coal Mine finally found a way out of their watery grave?
The Golden Plunge
If you've never heard of the Golden Plunge, you might not be old enough to remember the indoor swimming pool on Golden's Washington Avenue in the 1930s. Today in that spot you'll find the Buffalo Rose Events Center, but the pool is still there below the dance floor! Dan, Cody, Alex, Carrie, and I go down into the pool to search for the ghost of a little girl who drowned there in 1929.
The Jack Hill Saloon
Two large buffalo heads adorn the back wall of the Buffalo Rose’s dining room, but if you read the plaque between them you’ll find that you’re dining the Colorado’s oldest saloon! The name changed and the building remodeled various times over the years, but some parts of the architecture go back a long way, including the tunnel under the buffalo heads that you probably overlooked as you were reading the sign. Dan, Cody, Alex, and I go down into the secretive tunnel that once transported people from their fine businesses and prominent jobs across the street to the bar that once stood where the Buffalo Rose is today.
